Coming To Terms With Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse is one of the most traumatizing events that can occur in any different age group or gender being there are reported incidents of babies, young adults, and older aged individuals. Quite often, victims of sexual abuse let the abuse go undetected and this leaves her or him in a lonely state of being.

Even if the sexual perpetrator has been away for a long time and out of the victim’s life, people who encountered the abuse still hold those awful memories in his or her heads. Most abuse occurs at night so for many years people have a hard time with their sleeping patterns because they have fear deep inside. Self-mutilization happens with a lot of sexual abuse victims because if they hurt themselves physically such as cutting it takes the inner pain they feel away for them. The secret of sexually abused victims can linger for a long period of their lives. People become afraid to speak of the abuse because usually the perpetrator embeds it in their head not to tell anyone.

These fears cause social anxiety, panic attacks and isolation to the point some victims will not go outside of their homes. There are several ways a sexually abused person shows silent cries of help so it is up to others close to notice any odd behavior and address it with him or her. Do not pressure them, just allow the person to know you are there to help them when they feel comfortable to talk about what has occurred.
