Educating People on Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse is a silent epidemic that can be cured through education. Not all those who have been abused have reported the incidents to the authorities. This type of mistreatment comes in many different forms and can cause psychiatric instability and not only applies to children but many adults as well. Occasionally, people lack the knowledge that others do violate sexually in the home, workplace and abroad.

Behaviors that correlate with sexual exploitation are inappropriate touching, promiscuity acts with siblings, peers, other adults or objects. Educating people on sexual abuse can be achieved through counselors, religious parishioners and victims who have been abused. Sexual abuse hotlines are available in communities, churches and public school systems.

Training an individual should begin at an early age. A Child should know what is inappropriate touching and they should be informed that if someone tells them not to tell about what someone did to them that they should tell it anyway.

Education on abuse is part of the healing process for many of those who have been sexually abused. This releases stress and aids with the development of healthy coping skills that minimizes the shame that comes along with the abuse. Through learning, the abused will feel better about themselves and build a more solid foundation mentally.

Survivors of this abuse come in all ages. Support groups online and in local communities, ages appropriate, are great ways to start the healing process from a disease that can be detrimental mentally as well as physically.
